Ingredients
Scale
For the Chicken:
- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tbsp hot sauce
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- Vegetable oil, for frying
For the Hot Sauce:
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 2 tbsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
For the Sandwich:
- 2 brioche buns
- Pickle slices
- Lettuce leaves
- Mayonnaise (optional)
Instructions
- Marinate the Chicken: In a bowl, combine the buttermilk and hot sauce. Add the chicken breasts and marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight.
- Prepare the Breading: In another bowl, mix together the flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
- Bread the Chicken: Remove the chicken from the marinade and dredge in the flour mixture, ensuring it’s fully coated. Shake off any excess.
- Fry the Chicken: Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the breaded chicken and fry for 6-7 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Make the Hot Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, cayenne pepper, brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Coat the Chicken: Brush the hot sauce mixture onto the fried chicken, ensuring it’s fully coated.
- Assemble the Sandwich: Spread mayonnaise (if using) on the brioche buns. Place a piece of lettuce on the bottom bun, followed by the hot chicken, pickle slices, and the top bun.
- Serve: Enjoy your Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich immediately!
Notes
- Adjust the Heat: Taste the hot sauce as you make it and adjust the amount of cayenne pepper to suit your taste. You can always add more heat, but it’s harder to take it away!
- Double Dredge: For extra crispy chicken, double dredge the chicken in the flour mixture before frying.
- Rest the Chicken: Let the fried chicken rest for a few minutes before coating it in the hot sauce. This helps the coating stick better.
