Description

Italian Sub Squares are a delightful and hearty dish that combines the flavors of a classic Italian sub sandwich in a convenient, bite-sized form. Perfect for parties, game days, or a cozy night in, these squares are packed with savory meats, melted cheese, and tangy toppings, all baked to perfection on a crispy pizza crust.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 lb sliced ham
  • 1/2 lb sliced salami
  • 1/2 lb sliced pepperoni
  • 1/2 lb sliced provolone cheese
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/2 cup sliced pepperoncini
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional toppings: shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, red onion

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with olive oil.
  2. Prepare the Dough: Roll out the pizza dough to fit the baking dish. Press the dough into the dish, making sure it covers the bottom and sides.
  3. Layer the Ingredients: Start by spreading a thin layer of marinara sauce over the dough. Then, layer the ham, salami, pepperoni, and provolone cheese. Top with black olives and pepperoncini.
  4. Season: Sprinkle the oregano, basil, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper over the top.
  5. Bake: Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the crust is golden brown.
  6. Serve: Let the Italian Sub Squares cool for a few minutes, then slice into squares. Serve with your favorite toppings and enjoy!

Notes

  • Customization: Feel free to customize the toppings and meats to suit your preferences. You can add extra vegetables or swap out the meats for a different flavor profile.
  • Make Ahead: You can assemble the Italian Sub Squares up to a day in advance. Just cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to bake.
  • Storage: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave before serving.
