Description
Hawaiian Roll French Toast is a delightful twist on traditional French toast, using sweet Hawaiian rolls instead of regular bread. This recipe combines the fluffy texture of Hawaiian rolls with a rich, cinnamon-vanilla custard, creating a breakfast treat that’s both indulgent and comforting.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pack (12 rolls) of King’s Hawaiian Sweet Rolls
- 3 large eggs
- ¾ cup half and half (or whole milk)
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- A pinch of salt
- 4 tbsp butter (salted or unsalted)
- Powdered sugar, fresh fruit, and syrup for topping
Instructions
- Prepare the Egg Mixture: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, half and half, vanilla extract, cinnamon, brown sugar, and salt until well combined.
- Prep the Rolls: Use a toothpick or skewer to poke a few holes in the bottom of each roll. This helps the egg mixture soak in better.
- Soak the Rolls: Dip each roll in the egg mixture for about 30 seconds, ensuring all sides are coated. Be careful not to soak them for too long, or they may become mushy.
- Cook the French Toast: Heat a non-stick skillet over medium-low heat and add 2 tbsp of butter. Once melted, add the soaked rolls to the pan. Cook each side for about 30 seconds, or until golden brown. Make sure to cook all sides, including the top and bottom.
- Serve: Once all the rolls are cooked, sprinkle them with powdered sugar and serve with fresh fruit and maple syrup. Enjoy!
Notes
- Use a Cast Iron Skillet: A cast iron skillet is best for getting the rolls crispy and golden brown.
- Don’t Overcrowd the Pan: Cooking in batches ensures that the rolls cook evenly and get a nice sear.
- Adjust the Sweetness: Taste the egg mixture and adjust the sweetness as needed. You can add more brown sugar or a drizzle of honey if desired.
- Reheat Properly: To keep the rolls crispy, reheat them in a pan over medium heat with a little extra butter.
